ETHIONAMIDE (e thye ON am ide) is an antibiotic. It is used to treat tuberculosis (TB). This medicine is used with other medicines and should never be used alone. It will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.
Ethionamide 250mg, Oral tablet

· Severity: Moderate
· Notes for Consumers: Avoid drinking Alcohol while taking Ethionamide. The use of Alcohol while taking Ethionamide may cause dizziness, drowsiness or mental confusion, or may increase the risk of Ethionamide-related side effects. If you develop fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain, discuss these symptoms with your health care provider. Do not drive or operate machinery if you have been drinking Alcholic beverages.
· Notes for Professionals: A psychotic reaction has been reported in patients receiving ethionamide and consuming excessive amounts of ethanol. Also, ethionamide appears to be metabolized by the liver. Chronic alcohol ingestion may increase enzymatic activity of the liver whereas acute alcohol ingestion can inhibit liver enzymatic activity.
