LINEZOLID/Zyvox (li NE zoh lid) is an oxazolidinone antibiotic. It is used to treat certain kinds of bacterial infections. It will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.
Linezolid 600mg, Oral tablet
Caffeine-containing Foods/Beverages
· Severity: Moderate
· Notes for Consumers: Try to limit caffeine intake while taking Linezolid. Side effects from Linezolid may get worse if you take Caffeine, like increased blood pressure, confusion, restlessness, or other side effects. All preparations containing caffeine should be used sparingly such as tea, coffee, chocolate, cola, or 'stay awake' products. Some nonprescription medicines also contain caffeine and should not be taken along with Linezolid.
· Notes for Professionals: Linezolid is an antibiotic that is also a reversible, non-selective inhibitor of MAO. Dangerous cardiac arrhythmias or severe hypertension can occur because of the potentiation of caffeine's sympathomimetic effects by MAOIs. Caffeine use should be minimized or avoided during and for 1 to 2 weeks after discontinuation of any MAOI.

Tyramine-containing foods
· Severity: Major
· Notes for Consumers: Certain foods containing tyramine might increase the risk of side effects with Linezolid. You should probably limit your intake of alcoholic beverages, aged or smoked meats (like sausages or smoked or pickled fish), aged cheeses, and caffeine containing foods like coffee, colas, teas, and chocolate while on Linezolid. Taking these foods along with Linezolid might increase the risk of increased blood pressure, confusion, restlessness, or other side effects. Ask your dietician or health care professional for a complete listing of foods best avoided while on Linezolid.
· Notes for Professionals: Linezolid is an antibiotic that is also a reversible, non-selective inhibitor of MAO. Foods containing tyramine should be avoided.

Alcohol
· Severity: Major
· Notes for Consumers: You should avoid alcoholic beverages while taking Linezolid. Side effects from Linezolid may get worse if you take Alcoholic beverages or medicines containing a significant amount of Alcohol. Beverages to avoid include some beers (including alcohol-free beer); wines; sherry; hard liquor; or liqueurs. Taking these beverages along with Linezolid might increase the risk of serious high blood pressure, confusion, restlessness, or other side effects.
· Notes for Professionals: Linezolid is an antibiotic that is also a reversible, non-selective inhibitor of MAO. Some ethanol-based products also contain tyramine including some beers; wines; sherry; hard liquor; or liqueurs and should be avoided.
