Caffeine-containing Foods/Beverages

· Severity: Moderate

· Notes for Consumers: Limit excessive caffeine intake (examples: coffee, teas, colas, chocolate and some herbal supplements) while taking Armodafinil. Also avoid medicines containing additional Caffeine whenever possible. Taking a high amount of Caffeine can increase the risk of nausea, nervousness, palpitations, problems with sleep, rapid heartbeat, or other side effects.

· Notes for Professionals: Caffeine is a CNS-stimulant and such actions are expected to be additive when coadministered with psychostimulants such as armodafinil. Patients taking armodafinil may need to be cautioned to avoid excessive intake of caffeine.

Alcohol

· Severity: Major

· Notes for Consumers: Avoid alcoholic beverages while taking this Armodafinil. Alcohol may cause drowsiness and other side effects which may decrease the effectiveness of Armodafinil.

· Notes for Professionals: Advise patients to avoid ethanol-containing beverages while taking armodafinil. There is no information on the effects of concurrent administration of ethanol or ethanol-containing medications with armodafinil; the CNS depressant effect of alcohol may reduce the response to armodafinil.
